samphire (Salicornia europaea)
- Marsh samphire
- Samphire, or marsh samphire as it is sometimes known, grows along the coast in undisturbed, untrodden places. It is a low growing plant that thrives in the sea salt spray.
- Traditionally it has been harvested for hundreds of years.
- Rock samphire
- There is also an unrelated plant called rock samphire. Rock samphire is a member of the carrot family. It was sometimes preserved as a pickled vegetable.
